Reading articles

I am quite fond of certain magazines (The New Yorker is just one of my favorites) and urge you to find a "favorite" magazine. Today, you don't need to subscribe to a magazine in order to enjoy reading quality articles. Perhaps you have a talent or interest that you want to pursue. Journals exist on most topics under the sun- find one that suits you. Blog about your journal article and the journal itself. We are eager to read your article, so be sure to link the article directly to your post, as I did. To do so, underline the word you want to link and click on the hyperlink icon. Viola!

You have until Chol HaMoed.

Happy reading!

  1. Everyone in the teen world is aware of how much they lie to their parents. I myself lie a lot about things i dont want my parents to know, so i dont get punished for them. This also goes as far as lieing to your teachers. i read this article talking about this test that Dr. Nancy Darling ran to see what precent of teenagers lie to their parents and shockingly 98 percent of the teens reported lying to their parents. after reading this article i figured I should share it with you guys.
Here is the link to it:

  2. Daniel, that was a very interesting article. I will show you how to hyperlink in class. Boys, surfrboy is really catching a wave!

Do you all agree with Daniel's assertion that teens lie to their parents? This means you! What can we do about this pervasive disease that threatens us all?

Perhaps we can look at the research and see what are the causes of all the lies....

  3. After reading the aticle Daniel found I clearly saw that is not what happened in my house. In my house my parents never lie to me. Not only that but they pushed for me and my sister to be honest people. As a result nor my sister or I lie often or little at all. Because of this I have seen in my life that there is little to lie about. Also by looking at others I realize alot of the time when they lie their usually shirking responsibility of their own failure's, like not doing their homework.

  4. As Im sure you all know its seems that cheating in high school seems to be the norm. To get into a good college, to get good grades all you need to do is cheat on a test. I probaly can guess what you'l all say in response to that statement. Thats not why were cheating its jus to get past this test or this exam;the teacher makes really hard exams;or mabey I've studied as hard as I could I just needed help on one question! However,I agree with this article I read Its morally and ethically wrong despite it being stronger or weaker in certain cases. In a survey in 2008 conducted by Josephson Institute Center for Youth Ethics that while 93% of teenagers report that they are satisfied with their personal ethics and character. Two-thirds of the teens surveyed have cheated in the past year. In addition going back to my guesses about your response to this statement;listen to this. In a survey conducted by Who Among American High School Students, reports that 80% of sixteen to eighteen-year-olds with A or B averages who plan to attend college after their graduation cheated in order to do well in their classes. In fact, the survey states that 95% of the cheaters were not caught. Now, and mabey after you looked at this article who's hyperlink is http://waylandstudentpress.com/2009/03/08/cheating-todays-high-school-norm/
I would like to hear your comments on this article.

  5. Mrs Tsuna I think the only way parents can get their teens not to lie to them as much is by building a friendly relationship with them, and less of the strict punish you for everything relationship. The main reason teens lie is because they're scared to say the truth and get punished for it so they lie about everything bad they do.

  6. I get the building friendship thing between the parents and the kids, but how will the young ones learn without punishment? If a child runs into the street and the parent says hey Chris do not run into the street and he does not get punished. Next time he crosses the st. Chris gets hit by a car....Now what? Oh well at least Chris learned his lesson?

  7. What article I found interesting is "Why do people steal". The link: http://hubpages.com/hub/Catchathief. I think people steal because they are enticed to have that item they dream about to have. Having that item would make them the most happiest person perhaps.

  8. I disagree with your example Chaim. In my opinion, in that situation all the parent has to do is make sure their child knows, starting a young age, to hold their hands when crossing a street. I don't think in this case there's a need for punishment, if you start teaching them at a young enough age.

  9. Some children do not lie to their parents, but a majority of them do. The reason for this is not so simple, and very depending on the child. Some children may lie their parents because do not want to disappointment them , to avoid punishment , and/or responsibilities.

  14. david did you ever own a pet that died

    ReplyDelete
  15. Because if you did they probably lied to you to not make you sad

    ReplyDelete
  16. What do you mean by that last statement? Also the only pet I had that died were fish.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No. What did the statement they would have lied, who would have lied? If you mean my parents they never lied about any pet dying. In my case the two pets I've had were fish and my dog. And there were only had 2 occasions when we had fish. The first ones it was blatenly obvious they died because we went on a trip and forgot to ask someone to feed them while we were gone. And the second group they died slowly, this was about 5 years ago, from a diesese called ICK and yes this is a actual disease. and my dog is still alive, so my parents never lied to me about a pet dying.
